In the unique city of Siena, Italy, five foreign university students stumble across an ancient Etruscan mask in an old house as they are delivering newspapers by night. It soon becomes apparent that with possession of the mask comes an inescapable evil. With the help of a knowledgeable professor, they begin to uncover the dark secrets that surround it and are shocked to hear of its terrifying powers. After a series of unexplainable events, it becomes clear that the mask must be destroyed. However, one of the students has already succumbed to its powers and in doing so has released an ancient demon which has no intention of being destroyed.

THE SITUATION

When a group of American soldiers throw an Iraqi boy off a bridge in Samarra, it sets off a chain of events that exposes the deep rifts among the Iraqi people and results in yet another cycle of violence between the insurgents and the corrupt Iraqi police.

Meanwhile, Anna, an American journalist, is writing a story about the assassination of an Iraqi leader with whom she had developed a close friendship. She is also in the process of finishing a relationship with Dan, an American intelligence official, who thinks the war can be won with hearts and minds. As she begins her investigation into the reason for her friend’s death, a young Iraqi photographer shows her there are people, rather than sides, in the conflict and he begins to win her heart. As she tries to make sense of the half-truths of Iraq, she gets caught up in the violence and finds her life in extreme danger.

THE SITUATION is a dramatization of one of the countless human stories that lie behind the headlines of present-day Iraq.

TRUE NORTH

Driven by the need to make money when he is failing to land a large enough catch to make ends meet, a young fisherman decides to accept a group of Chinese illegal immigrants on to his ship after a chance meeting with an unscrupulous shipping merchant. Thinking that the boat will sail directly home to Scotland, he decides to house them in the ship's hold with little food or water and no sanitary arrangements. What's more, he has to keep them hidden from his father, the Captain, for fear that he will lose everything he's worked for if they are found out. In order not to attract the suspicion from the authorities when they return to port, they need to bring home a large catch. As a result, the short trip that was planned turns into several days at sea as they go in search of the catch of a lifetime. As the days go on and the seas get rougher, the young fisherman and his compassionate crew-mate begin to realise that however good their intentions, their plan is set to end in the most shocking and tragic of circumstances.
