Highway Cops
Sometimes hilarious, sometimes haunting, Highway Cops follows the officers who aim to keep motorists safe on 11,000 kilometres of spectacular and unforgiving roads in New Zealand. From upturned sheep trailers to washed-out campers, tourists tackling highways for the first time to country boys risking their lives on rural roads, no day is ever the same! The Tasman Highway Patrol covers a vast beat - 70,000 square kilometres of district that is a mecca for tourists from all over the world - some driving too fast, some too slow and some on the wrong side of the road! The Central Districts team covers more than 1360 kilometres of highway and tackle the drama from the trauma of a serious crash to the perils of rescuing a stranded cow. Southern District Highway Patrol covers nearly a quarter of New Zealand, including some of the most rugged and perilous roads in the country. The Southern beat includes several party towns where the population doubles over the summer. Language barriers and bumptious locals are just some of the challenges faced in these scenic hotspots.
