Children’s titles sold especially well and included the licensing of LIZZIE’S LIBRARY to Israel’s Hop! The Nursery Channel, THE ADVENTURES OF SKIPPY to Romania and GLAD RAGS and MISERY GUTS to TV Polania, Poland.
From Beyond’s factual catalogue, the six part series SCIENCE FRONTIERS, will air on Channel One Russia’s new documentary slot, “A New Day”. TVP Poland has picked up a raft of factual programming including the award-winning PRIVATE LIVES strand, the SUPER SURGERY series and one hour special BORN AGAINST THE ODDS and wildlife documentaries A SEA OF SUPRISES and SEA OF SNAKES. TVFBH Bosnia Herzegovina has secured a package of documentaries including PLAYING THE GAME, RISK, BRAIN ATTACK and ERUPTIONS ON EARTH. In Poland, TVP Channel 1 have picked up A SEA OF SURPRISES while Channel 2 signed up for more programmes from the PRIVATE LIVES series as well as Beyond’s blue chip wildlife documentary SEA OF SNAKES. In Hungary, Duna Television signed a 28 hour documentary package, including a further two seasons of BBC’S TOMORROW’S WORLD, SUBMARINES: SHARKS OF STEEL and CHASING THE MIDNIGHT SUN.
On the drama front, P&P Yugoslavia added to their existing deal for HALIFAX by licensing a further 88 hours from Beyond’s drama catalogue, including THE PONDEROSA and STINGERS for Serbia, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. TV Slovakia picked up telemovies TEMPTATION and SECRET BRIDESMAID BUSINESS. New Romanian channel National TV/SC ABC Plus acquired a raft of feature films including SPOTSWOOD (Anthony Hopkins & Russell Crowe), SUMMER CITY (Mel Gibson), PAPERBACK HERO (Hugh Jackman), LOOKING FOR ALIBRANDI (Anthony La Paglia), THE CRAIC and SLC PUNK! In addition, following their success with BLACKROCK (Heath Ledger) and a number of other Beyond films, Ale Kino, Canal+ Poland’s thematic movie channel have licensed HOTEL SORRENTO and LILIAN’S STORY. Baz Luhrmann’s hit Australian movie STRICTLY BALLROOM is still proving popular, securing a DVD and Home Video distribution deal with Intercom Hungary. Feature films from Beyond’s extensive catalogue have been snapped up by DVD and Home Video clients across Central and Eastern Europe, including a deal with CD Land for DVD rights to WOGBOY, RUSSIAN DOLL, KISS OR KILL, ALL THE WAY and WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED for Hungary and Israel.
