London, 20th June 2005 – Beyond Distribution has racked up a number of sales to Eastern Europe on the eve of DISCOP 2005.
Emma Simpkins, Beyond’s VP Sales - Eastern Europe says “Recent sales highlight how well Eastern Europe is flourishing at the moment. Beyond has always had strong relationships with these territories and I look forward to continuing them.”
The RIVERDANCE specials are proving to be a popular addition to the Beyond stable. RIVERDANCE – THE TEN YEARS (1 x 1 hour) celebrates the incredible rise of Riverdance from a seven-minute Eurovision Song Contest interval to a global dance phenomenon and internationally recognised brand... THE BEST OF RIVERDANCE (1 x 100 minute) is a special compilation featuring performances around the four corners of the world. Highlights include: Reel Around The Sun performed by Michael Flatley and company at the Point Theatre, Dublin; Thunderstorm performed by Pat Roddy and company in Radio City Music Hall, New York; and a special compilation performance featuring the talents of the lead dancers over the past ten years. The special recently aired on free-to-air channel Seven Network Australia, where it stormed the ratings to win its slot in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
The most recent Central European territory to snap up the Irish dance phenomenon is Romania, and Televiziunea Romania Channel 2 will air both Specials later this year. Negotiations with channels in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia are near finalisation.
Feature films are the flavour of the moment with a package deal concluded recently with TVP Poland. Films in the package include mini-series DAY OF THE ROSES (4 x 1 hour or 2 x 90’), drawn from the real-life event surrounding Australia’s worst train crash, the spirit of the rescuers and the sheer determination of those who miraculously survived prove a source of inspiration for us all; THE LAST BULLET (1 x 95’) a feature film starring Jason Donovan (Neighbours) which is set in the Borneo jungle in the final days of World War II; STRICLTY BALLROOM (1 x 94’) a ballroom extravaganza which was one of Australia’s biggest international hits of the past two decades; and PASSION (1 x 102’) the story of acclaimed international composer, pianist and eccentric Percy Grainer starring Barbara Hershey (Beaches, The Portrait of a Lady).
