Sydney, 27th October 2005: Beyond International is proud that films, mini-series’ and drama series produced and/or distributed by the Company have been nominated for a number of industry awards.
Heading the impressive list is feature film Oyster Farmer with a total of 6 nominations. They are:
Best Film and Best Cinematography at the Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards,
Best Production Design and Best Cinematography at the Inside Film (IF) Awards,
Best Actress in a Supporting role - Kerry Armstrong and Best Cinematography at the Film Critic’s Circle Australia (FCCA) Awards.
Set on the beautiful Hawkesbury River, Oyster Farmer, distributed in Australia by Dendy Films, was the first Australian film to exceed AU$2 million box office in the last 12 months. Starring Kerry Armstrong, David Field, Jim Norton, Alex O’Lachlan, Diana Glenn and Jack Thompson and written and directed by Anna Reeves, it tells the love story about an inept thief who ends up a local hero. The film won the Best Film, Best Actress (Diana Glenn) and Best Actor (David Field) awards at the St Tropez Film Festival in France last week and has recently been sold to Redbus in the United Kingdom for a theatrical release in early 2006.
The mini-series Through My Eyes, has been nominated for three AFI Awards:
Best Tele-feature or Mini-Series
Best Lead Actress in Television – Miranda Otto
Best Guest or Supporting Actress in Television – Angie Milliken
Based on the dramatic true story of the disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain at Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) in 1980 Through My Eyes, was produced by joint venture Liberty and Beyond and stars Miranda Otto, Paul Mercurio and John McArdle. It was one of the highest rated mini-series on Australian television when it premiered late last year on the Seven Network.
Small Claims - White Wedding, the second in a series of three tele-features starring Claudia Karvan and Rebecca Gibney, has received an AFI nomination for Best Guest or Supporting Actress in Television – Alyssa McClelland, and the Best Telemovie – Original at the Australian Writers Guild Awards. Produced by RB Films, Small Claims is a series of tele-features in which two women encounter murder, mayhem and motherhood all in a days work.
Also nominated for an AWG Award is long- running series, Stingers, which is nominated for Best Television Series. Produced by Beyond Simpson Le Mesurier, the series had a successful 8 season run on the Nine Network Australia. Stingers is inspired by true events, exploring the lives of five undercover operatives and their experiences of crime, anonymity, love and betrayal. To date STINGERS has been sold to a host of territories including United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain and Dubai.
