Another successful MIPCOM for Beyond

29th October 2014

Beyond Distribution launched twelve new titles at MIPCOM 2014, together with 140 hours of returning series. The slate comprises content from production companies in USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Beyond has secured the international distribution rights to five new titles from 7Productions in Australia. The collection features the successful comedy series Bogan Hunters, a national road trip to find Australia’s greatest bogan; and Kinne, a feisty sketch show taking a left-field view on life. Also released is Boy To Man, an epic solo quest with Tim Noonan as he experiences the most extreme coming-of-age rituals around the world; and My France With Manu, a homeland culinary tour of France with celebrity chef and host Manu Feildel. Comedian Anh Do continues his anthology travel series with another hilarious and offbeat adventure in Anh Does Brazil.

There are three new shows from Beyond’s in-house production entities: Dark Temptations from Beyond Productions, a crime series prying open the lid of worlds where weird obsessions turn deadly; from Beyond Screen Production comes Wild But True, a fun children’s series exploring biomimicry and how nature has influenced modern lives, and Prison Songs, a documentary musical sharing the personal stories of Aboriginal inmates from behind prison walls.

Also from Australia is Park Street, produced by Foxtel, where the doors are opened at ACP Magazines’ to expose the cutthroat world of women’s publishing.

From New Zealand Life Flight, produced by Starfish Pictures, which follows an emergency air rescue crew as they attend serious medical emergencies and accidents; and Real Lives Less Ordinary from Jam TV, meeting everyday people who have an extraordinary story of achievement to share.

Zoo Revolution, a balanced and informed debate about the value of zoos in the 21st century originates from Dream Street Pictures in Canada.

Popular returning titles include Highway Thru Hell, Love It or List It, Income Property, Deadly Women, Facing Evil, Animal 999, Junior Vets, Highway Patrol, Motorway Patrol and Pipsqueaks return with new series.

The Distribution division had a very busy time at MIPCOM, with nearly 250 meetings with the Sales and Acquisitions teams and a cocktail party for the 7Productions launch.

Munia Kanna-Konsek, Beyond’s Head of Sales said this MIPCOM, was “Another success for the Beyond Team which started with Wild But True being a top pick amongst buyers at MIPCOM Junior. This is the edutainment series starring Robert Irwin who is following in the footsteps of his father, Steve Irwin. We secured a large number of deals covering many of the above titles as well as all our returning series including MythBusters, Love It or List It, Highway Thru Hell, Deadly Women, Income Property and the list goes on. While there were huge redundancies in some countries (YLE Finland as well as DR Denmark to name but two), there was growth potential with SVoD platforms continuing to sprout up and other broadcasters launching additional digital channels which opens doors to Beyond for continued exploitation of rights".
